The Communication Center will hold all their appointments online. Student can register for an appointment at the George Mason Communications Center. When it is time to attend their appointment, they must log into Blackboard and under courses select “Communication Center for Com 100/101.” They will be automatically taken to the Collaborate Ultra page. To start their appointment, they must go to the “Course Room” at the top of the page. A coach will be in the room waiting for them.
For more information, please go to the Communication Center’s Support Page.
Computational and Data Science (CDS) STARS
The Computational and Data Science (CDS) STARS are undergraduate Student Teaching Assistants and academic stars in their own right. This peer-mentoring program is one unique to the CDS department. STARS are undergrads who excel in CDS minor courses such as CDS 101, CDS 130 or CDS 230. They attend classes to assist with hands-on work and help students with whatever they struggle with via multiple channels. They also hold office hours.
For more information, please go to the Computational and Data Science (CDS) STARS Page.
Economics
In response to social-distancing measures implemented by the University, in-person undergraduate economics tutoring has been temporarily suspended.
The Economics Undergraduate advising and tutoring team has created a Tutoring Services in Economics Organization on Blackboard ECON Tutoring to provide virtual tutoring via a discussion board and Blackboard Collaborate.
For more information, please visit: Economics Tutoring Schedule.
Electrical and Computer Engineering
Students can still get help from the STEM Peer Mentors through Cisco Webex. Each Peer Mentor will have their own online call at their regular scheduled times.
Please visit the Peer Mentor Center Website to see the full roster of mentors, their subject areas, availabilities, and information on how to access Cisco Webex.
Information Technology
Information for obtaining tutoring in Information Technology can be found on the Volgenau Peer Mentor Center website.
Advising appointments with full-time instructors can be made using the IST Advising Appointment System.
Some tips:
- First, and most importantly, stay in contact with the instructor of the course. They are there to help you.
- If there is a Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) assigned to the course, reach out to them. They are also there to help you.
- Seek out a peer mentor from the Volgenau Peer Mentor Program, which offers tutoring in a number of IT courses.

Math Tutoring Center
The Math Tutoring Center will be offering online tutoring services to students currently enrolled in undergraduate Math courses at GMU.
To access the Math Tutoring Center online, students will need to login to Blackboard, click on the Organizations tab, locate the Math Tutoring Center Organization, and self-enroll into this organization. (I would suggest trying to self-enroll yourself first so that you can know how to show them.)
Students can post their specific questions into the Piazza folder corresponding to their course. They must state their questions clearly and consider uploading a PDF file with their questions. The tutors will answer their questions as soon as possible, but they may have to wait until the following business day. If they receive answers to their questions, but they still need further clarification, they can also join an active Blackboard Collaborate session.
Modern Languages
The Foreign Language Department offers a list of tutors offering services in different languages. Please find this information on their Tutoring in Foreign Languages page
