Tutoring for “A” Students
by Elise Boyd | Friday, May 2nd, 2025
Just because you’re a straight A student, it can still be beneficial to get tutoring! A tutor is a person who helps students become stronger in their academics. This can be specific for a class or a general tutor like a Peer Academic Coach that helps with planning/organizing, exam strategies, note-taking, and more. Tutoring can help strong academic students by helping them stay on top of their materials and testing their ultimate strength with reviewing from different perspectives. It can especially be helpful with students down the road during their academic life as school gets more difficult. Consistency is key with performing well, and with a one-on-one tutor for a straight A student it can help them maintain high grades in the long run as school gets more challenging.
Many students can say getting straight As are easy for them because they simply work harder than others which is true, but not 100%. Tutoring is not only for students who perform poorly in their academics, but also for highly impressive students too because there is always room for improvement. Difficulty in school can creep up on any student at any given time and can highly discourage a strong academic student who is used to getting As. When some straight A students get below a 90 it impacts them hard because they already have fixed expectations for them to pass and an exceeding level. However, with tutoring, students can remain stable with their high expectations and meet other colleges or programs expectations by far as well. A tutor can help personalize a student’s learning pattern and grow from it. They can introduce them to different study methods or approaches to different classes and future challenging classes. It helps them prepare for advanced courses that may require a variety of studying methods early on.
Once again, tutoring is not limited to poorly achieving academic students, but even for straight A students too. It helps students of all sorts unlock their true potential because learning is never a burden and there is always room for improvement. Tutors can help students with motivation for students to keep trying even though they get straight As already and can expose them to advanced material to test their knowledge. They can help connect the dots between strengths and weaknesses and find ways to eliminate as many weaknesses as possible. When high grades are such an important thing for high achievers a tutor is there to build their confidence in their classes because it means a lot to them. This can help them with any academic security that they secretly struggle with. Tutoring is for everyone!
